CFTH Receives Lyft Grant

Thanks to a recent grant awarded to our organization by the on-demand ridesharing app Lyft, dozens of CFTH clients were provided transportation to and from work, job interviews, medical appointments, and more.

Lyft selects three metro Atlanta nonprofits
as recipients of its local grants program

ATLANTA (October 2019) – Lyft, whose mission is to improve people’s lives with the world’s best
transportation, today announced the quarterly recipients of its local grants program in Atlanta. In
July 2019, Lyft announced over 40 cities will start to award Lyft ride grants to nonprofits on a
the quarterly basis to help bridge transportation gaps for individuals and families.
Lyft’s local grants initiative was developed in 2018 to help Lyft identify and connect with some of
the Atlanta area’s hardest working organizations. Lyft is thrilled to announce that in Atlanta the
following organizations will be awarded to help prevent poverty and homelessness in young
adults, support Latino-led organizations, and empower Atlantans to improve their quality of life.

● Connections Homes is dedicated to preventing poverty and homelessness for young
adults (18-24) aging out of foster care by connecting them with mentoring families. The
Lyft ride credits will be used via Connections Homes’ career center to get Atlanta youth to
job interviews.

● Latino Community Fund supports Latino-led organizations in Georgia with advocacy,
collaborative work, capacity building, program development, and grants. Lyft’s grants will
be used for its local efforts in Atlanta.

● The Center for Truth and Healing introduces innovative and effective social service and
empowerment programs that encourage, educate and improve the quality of life for
Atlantans. These grants will assist Atlantans with transportation to job interviews, new
employment opportunities, and childcare.

“Thanks to the generosity and compassion of Lyft and their commitment to empowering our
communities, The Center for Truth and Healing is able to provide transportation assistance to our
clients when public transportation is not an option or accessible,” said Her Excellency, Madame
Ambassador Shanta Lana Hereford, Executive Director for the Center for Truth and Healing and
Vice Prime Deputy for the State of the African Diaspora. “Now, when an eighteen year old young
lady calls me in the middle of the night with nowhere to go and no ride because her family put
her out, I can arrange for transportation to take her somewhere safe.”

“The newest program we offer provides aged-out foster and homeless young adults the
opportunity to feel confident and prepared to enter the workforce or further their education.
Sometimes the biggest hurdle for our youth to accessing resources like ours is transportation,
said Pam Parish, CEO and founder of Connections Homes. Lyft is going to make a major
difference for us, because the discount we can now provide will make our program more
accessible, extending our reach in the community.”

“Lyft is proud to partner with Connections Homes, Latino Community Fund and The Center for
Truth and Healing, all nonprofits that are bringing positive change to communities in metro
Atlanta,” said Sam Bond, Lyft’s Atlanta Regional Director. “We look forward to supporting these
hard working organizations who want to take their efforts even further and to helping them
provide access to reliable and affordable transportation.”

Nonprofits will be awarded grants on a quarterly basis, with recipients determined by a local
committee made up of Lyft employees and representatives from the Driver Advisory Council. Any
501(c)3 organization that operates in the Atlanta metro area is eligible to apply for a grant.

Lyft’s local grants is just one of many initiatives and a part of our commitment to deploy 1% of
profits or $50 million every year (whichever is greater) to help make our cities more livable for
everyone. We’re focused on a variety of programs from providing access for underserved
communities to groceries, jobs and more, to supercharging the growing civic movement in major
cities by donating transportation to grassroots civic organizations, building transportation
infrastructure in neighborhoods that need better connections to the rest of the city, and working
with local groups to build toward a clean energy future.
